MOT Failed - not too unhappy though...
My 2000MY 156 Sportwagon went in for it's first MOT in my hands today. Not too sad though - needs n/s & o/s steering rack boots and an o/s/f brake pipe. My mechanic says £100 to supply and fit; so could have been a lot worse!
The thing is, he showed me the bottom of the o/s/f spring, and said he 'thinks' it's broken at the end because it's a strange shape (and certainly doesn't look the same as the n/s/f one). As it's all shrouded in plastic, he couldn't be sure it's broken, so didn't fail on that. Is it common for 156's to break their front springs (I know it's a common point of failure on the rear springs on Vectra's)?
The good news is that the rumbling over road imperfections that has just started happening obviously isn't wear on the wishbones. It sounds like the same noise I got from a Volvo S60 when the front drop-links were excessively worn - are these an MOT fail?
I've only had the car 5 months and it now stands me in at £1,020 including the service and repairs I've had done to bring it up to scratch. At 95k I guess there should be plenty of life left in her judging by the 1.8TS I saw on Autotrader the other day with 140k!
