Premature Shock Absorber Failure (Advice)

The near side rear shock absorber has failed on my 27 month old Alfa 147 with 13,500 miles on the clock.

I wrote to Alfa to report it as a manufacturing fault with a view to reclaiming the cost. They have replied stating the lack of miles for the age had cause the premature failure, suggesting dust and moisture build up.

I have since discussed the matter for half an hour with them over the telephone. Not surprisingly they refuse the reconsider the matter. I have now sent a letter to the head of customer relations for further comment.

Has anyone had or heard of similar failures.

Thanks, Andrew.

It should be covered under warranty (although it may depend on what warranty you have).
My front right damper failed and the front pair were both replaced under warranty.
