I am buying a 156 2.4 JTD this week have. It drove well in the test drive and has 55k on the clock is in great ncik full service history etc. It's a 2002 '51 plate.

However there is only 1 key. I'll need a spare what will I need to get one? Are they ever so costly? What is the easiest/cheapest way of getting myself a spare,

Welcome to AO - remember and introduce yourself (unless you have already )

You will need to contact an Alfa dealer, i assume it is a red key model?

Not sure how much it is but don't think it is too hefty - this is the only way as Alfa UK keep all the code cards. Have the last 8 digits of the car's Chassis no at the ready when you phone Alfa as well as....

Durr, they know what the key's mechanical no is as well.

I was told that an AR dealer will supply a cut key for about £70. You need to take your car in to them to program the key to your car which is another (i think about) £45. However, the catch is the two keys have to be present in order to program. Therefore, if you loose your key / it breaks, you will need to wait for your two keys to come (3-5 working days I think), then get your car recovered to them to get the keys programmed.

Any decent auto locksmith who has got a decent computer can also do the job, but with them it may be hit and miss affair, you may get charged even if they can't do it, when AR charge such reasonable prices (for this one service), why not. Also I'm not sure whether autolocksmiths can program the remote fobs, I think I was told you need Examiner (AR's proprietry software) in order to do so.

Up to you whether you think you are likely to loose your keys or not.
