Re: Am I losing my mind ?
pls avoid the RX-8.
there are two versions - lo-power and hi-po. unless ur getting the hi-po 6-speed mazdaspeed variant, the rest are a waste of time. a 2L TS 156 will run rings around a lo-po RX-8 even though the rated power of the RX-8 is much higher on paper.
reason is that the renesis rotary is severely lacking on torque. the car is not very drivable. in a drag race, a TS will easily overtake one. u need to rev the bejesus out of the rotary to get any go from it and just when u think its beginning to push, uv run out of revs and have to upshift. repeat 6 times until ur sick and tired. the RX-7 was a much better car cos it had the turbo and no torque problems.
handling while sharp is also not all that great. i just came from instructing at a track school and the -8's were constantly spinning out, more than any other type of car out there.
now let's get to the looks. yes, the car still looks sharp, but interior is plasticky and the chrome accents is starting to look chav. the suicide doors are, well, pointless, just like the rest of the car.
i've heard good things about the mazdaspeed variant, but unless they've plonked a turbo under the bonnet i dont see how much better it can be. also, mazda have had to revise their hp ratings for the RX-8 as the cars were severely underdelivering on the promised rated power.
if u want something japanese, reliable, cheap and quick, get an Integra DC5-R.
