Re: alfa 156 V6, Engine damage permanant?? Headgasket?? help please!!
Sounds very painful, best to get a garage to take a look. Recon engines are about £2000 plus fitting which isn't a huge job.
Sounds like a bottom end problem, With a blow head gasket You get a leak from one of the following to another
A cylinder, an oilway, a coolant passage, the outside air.
If you hear no loud blowing noise then it isn't air escaping. Oil to water give mayo in oil filler cap and coolant tank, cylinder to cylinder give no power no two cylinders, a one hell of an engine shake, oilway to cylinder shoots the oil dipstick out of its hole and covers the engine bay in oil, coolant or oil passga eto outside gives a leak which you will see on the floor.
Given the dramatic failure, it is something major, i'd go for spun bearing. Maybe cooling down increases gaps and reduces effect but problem get worse with higher temps!
Sonds like a new engine as when one end goes and is fixed the other goes shortly afterwards!
