Its not that expensive, but depends on how many parts are affected.
There is a passanger and driver side half shaft, each of which are made up of inner and outer CV joints (so 4 CV joint components in total).
Often just one CV joint component needs to be replaced and may cost approx £150 plus labour, or you can get a whole halfshaft for approx £250.
Its worth getting a quote for a full halfshaft as well as just the single CV joint, don't know is it much extra labour to fit.

CV joints wear is affected by
- Applying lots of power at very high levels of lock e.g. taking off really quickly from standstill with lock already applied is not clever.
- Lowering your car increased wear on the CV joints
- obviously extra torque increases wear.
- As does track driving etc. (doh!
How many miles did you get out of them?
