Re: power loss
after 4K is when the engine comes alive! so you do have real problems
do you have a diesel sound on start up? If so = Variator gone (try asearch for threads)
could be fueling problem.
First I recommend you spend a little on some top end fuel systems cleaner - the best you can get, appx £20
Also use a can of 10K boost (avail in halfords etc)
Also ref the variator, chuck a couple (not one) tin off wynns engine flush in the engine, drive at least 50 miles, then change the oil and filter whiles it's still quite warm - be careful!- often this does cure dodgy variators, there was athread on here recently by someone who did that, as I have done to great effect.
Make sure you use 10W40 or 10W60 semi synthetic only.
This might cure it for under £70.
If not and there is (still) a diesel sound, like a tractor on start up, then a new variator is needed.
If above fuel clean etc does not dramtically improve things and no diesel sound, then only think of the below
Fuel filter never changed and part blocked -replace it
Spark plugs buggered - see what they look like - they can tell you so much, go to the sites for diagnosis pics. fit new (see sparkplugs.co.uk for iridium, or ebay or shop4parts.co.uk for platinum
compression test - oh check the inside of oil filler cap for mayo like stuff, also oily film in the water = head gasket gone, may also expalin the oil loss (if above 1L per 1000miles)
is there a bit of something blocking the air intake? like plastic that as the sucktion rises with revs, pulls it over the intake? (behind the front bumper just below the light) but check the whole intake system. Is the air filter ok? try a new one?
see how you got doing this
but try the checks that cost nothing first i suggest!
Hold the rear end slide....don't run wide!
