Just spoken to the guy selling it. Re service it's full service history. He has a receipt from alfa which covers the install of a new engine -aparantly it had a common issue leaking coolant and they replaced engine under warranty so engine has only done 5000 miles.
Comments like that p*ss me off, and I'm not getting at alfadeeds, he's only relaying it ... leaking is common, the rads on 156s and 147s do corrode, but the engine was wrecked because the owner hadn't paid it enough attention.
A couple of years after I got my 156, I popped into the dealers to say "hi" as I was passing. Out the back were several "broken" 156's ... why? They had all been bought by leasing companies and all were waiting for new engines because the clowns driving them hadn't checked the oil levels ... they assumed that they would go from one service to the next without checking or topping up ... most, it turned out, used to have beemers!
Alfa's are no less reliable than the next car. Ok, there probably aren't as many on the roads, but I see enough BMWs, Audis, Mercs, and Fords sitting on the hard shoulder with the pi$$ed off faces of drivers sitting on the verge. Audi/VW had a terrible time once with coil packs ... Bosch like Alfas!
All cars need to be looked after ... there are plenty of 156s and 147s on this forum with 100K on the clock!
Off soap-box ...
