What do you consider "hard"? In the US driving 85mph/140km/u is the crazy fast, while I do that every day on the highway and think it's quite a normal speed. I consider above 110mph/180km/u to be 'faster than you should drive on public roads', but I'm afraid I'm guilty of that too. Above 125mph/200km/u I consider it to be "fast", but I know some nutcases that have to go over 260km/u (160mph) to get their kick (but they have the cars or bikes that go with those speeds)
That said, I think straight line speed isn't interesting at all, accelerating is up to a certain point, but the real challenge is cornering at (relatively) high speed. That gets my adrenaline kicking in
If there's a sign saying "max 60km/u" (about 35/40mph) before a corner and you're doing a good share more than double and get away with it - that's where the fun starts. Ok it's totally irrisponible - 100% agreed, but it's so much fun
FYI - I only "speed" and do such things when there's virtually no traffic - mostly after 1am) I'm not gonna go crazy in in heavy or even "normal" traffic, you'll never see me go from lane 3 to 1, then 2, then 1 again and again 3 on a highway, like I see ppl do every day. Ppl that mostly do this are business ppl (prolly late for some meeting) with a big Audi/BMW/Merc or stupid young kids (shouldn't say too much though
) showing off driving a Golf which has more power than they can handle...
I always try to be polite and stay calm in my car (and in general I succeed). Officially though, I'm probably speeding more than half of the time, other half is cause I'm in a school area or some idiot in front of me can't figure which pedal he should use to accelerate.
My trip to work though is a road polluted with speed bumps and I've learned to take it easy, there's little or no point at all going full throttle on those roads anyway. I always try to avoid braking to slow down, just estimate a bit when to release the throttle for things you see coming from miles away. I hate ppl accellerating for 50m and then having to brake for an obstacle that was already there when they started accelerating, or worse if they start flashing their lights if I're just letting the pedal go for a red light slowing down slowly - hoping it'll switch to green when I almost reach it, so I can get away a lot faster than when I was standing still and then had to get my car moving. I just try to drive in an efficient way (time/speed/fuel economy) when the trip is functional
When it's for fun, well... other story then
On roads I do a lot, I try to get a feeling of the timings of the lights, and that's really relaxed driving then, though there's one to keep the fun in the game, where I have to hit 180km/u asap at the previous light to get green on the next-one, and even then it's a close call since I have to slow down to 70 or I get a nice picture taken of my car & licence plate
It isn't a real highway, but it's a 4-lane road where you can do 120km/u officially and at the times have to be there, there's always very little trafic (lucky me
