Thank you Ralf
I am finding it hard to say what I want to say without sounding smug/smartarse/conceited/...(insert your own preferred arogance synonym), so please accept any apologies in advance - I do not mean to cause any offense or any sort of upsetment.
I have been trying to avoid stating what follows, but maybe I really need to to make it clear what sort of 'direction' I am seeking as the comments so far (mostly) are well within my own experience.
I was for a time a regular contributor to Automotive Engineer - a journal published by the Chartered Institute of Mechanical Engineers as well as an irregular contributor to Race Car Engineering. I am also a mechanical engineer, with undergraduate research experience in structural composites. I have also read from cover to cover Race Car and Vehicle Dynamics - around 1000 pages of detailed engineering studies on everything related to high performance vehicle development. I could also list many other technical books on the topic which I have studied. Finally, I also know somone who had engineered on F1 cars (many years ago) and more recently engineered suspension kits for Roddy Bailey.
I also ahev first hand experience of both car racing (with some modest success) and bike racing (I still occasionally take out a TZ250 GP bike to play ontrack days).
I appreciate all the wise advise I have been given - none of which I would disagree with. But, I am not in favour of reinventing the wheel and Alfas generally attract enthusiastic driversand so I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of some existing package' options. I would probably be more inclinded to do my own thing if the 156 used radially mounted calipers - I am assuming they do not, but if you know differently ....
Oh, on dampers - it wasn't that long ago I was seriously considering 2500 ukp a corner. In the end I only paid that for the full set - I just could not afford that despite my desire - and I'm a lot poorer now though since a change of career
My preference is decidely for 2.25" coilover sets as it is so easy and cheap to get springs in this standard sizing. Much more likely to get the right setup.
As I said, please accept my apologies for appearing to be ungrateful(?) etc, I am not just hoping for something a bit more specific.
