147 TS 2.0 cam sensor
For the past couple of weeks the engine warning light has been coming on intermittently. A read out of use ECU gave error code P0340 Camshaft Position 'A' Circuit.
It went off for a while and so I left it. Yesterday whilst on the motorway, the warning came back on, the car went into limp mode and was limited to 3000 revs. It also sounded like I had no oil in the car (I checked and I have oil) It drove like this for about 10 miles while I was trying to get home.
I then lost all engine power and rolled to a stop on the hard shoulder and the car wouldn't start again.
Breakdown came out and towed me home. He said it sounded like the cam belt had gone, but once we got home he opening up the oil cap, asked me to try to start it and said it wasn't the cam belt as he could see the cam turning through the oil cap? Is that right?
So I'm thinking the reason the car won't start is now because the cam sensor has completely gone, this is still the only fault coming up on the reader.
Can anyone tell me if this sounds like the sensor? And if so, could anyone tell me where the sensor is located. I found a sensor on alfa parts for £70 so I'm hoping it's something I can get to myself and replace.
I'm a beginner (both in repairing cars and Alfas) so please be gentle!
Many thanks for any advice!
