Replace climate control pipe?
Has anyone any experience of swapping out the high pressure aircon hose on a 156 that goes between the compressor and the condensor /radiator? (specifically a JTS, but all petrol 4-cylinder EURO3 cars use the same pipe).
Is it just a case of unbolting each end and swapping the pipe over? Is there anything I need to know?
The manual says remove the bumper, but it looks like you can just about get to it through the front grill - has anyone managed this?
(I know there's no pressure in the system, as the pipe is cracked, so no need to worry from a safety perspective there.)
After trying the Halfords top up kit - which cost £40 and lasted for an hour - I called in a mobile specialist and he used a UV dye to identify that there was a stress fracture in the pipe near the condensor radiator. Ordered the pipe from my local Fiat dealer, but just wanted to check for any pitfalls before I fitted it.
Are you meant to lube the o-ring seals at all? The DTE servce cd says to dip the threads of the bolts in anti-freeze for some reason! Should I do the same with the o-ring seals? Has anyone had any success changing this pipe through the front grill? How does the pipe seal onto the compressor at the other end, as the parts cd doesn't show any o-ring seal at that end - will I be short of a part?
Thanks in advance.....
