Which 156 boot gas strut part number?
Hi everyone, 1st post! Been a lurker for a year or so though.
A couple of months ago both the boot gas struts broke their plastic end caps on my '01 156 V6 (They look like they were the originals, Stabilus Lift-O-Mats). After doing some research on here I thought it had the wrong part number struts on, as my car has the low line Zender spoiler and the struts were part number 6065167 (the non-spoiler version). I bought some new ones made by Magneti Marelli, part number 60657685, i.e. the version for cars with spoilers. After fitting they are seemed too strong - after releasing the boot the struts have been flexing the area where the boot hinges / strut ball ends fit to the body panels as the inertia of the boot tries to pull the strut further after it reaches its stop. Then the other day I opened the boot and the force was enough to break one of the strut end caps again...
So did I put the wrong part number struts on, and cars with lowline Zender spoilers should have the non-spoiler struts? (I originally thought the car had been fitted with the wrong struts in classic 'lets fit whatever we've got left in the stores' Alfa thing). Or are Magneti Marelli struts just crap! (They had the plastic ends rather than steel ends as i've read you can buy from some manufacturers). The upshot is i've got to buy some more anyway, I would just rather they are the right ones! Cheers for your help.
