Help "motor control system failure"

hi peeps

need some help / reassurance / suggestions please

was driving my '04 2.0l 156 jts yesterday when the above message popped up

anybody know what it is likely to be?

earlier in the day my front electric windows stopped working but they were ok after an engine restart.

it had its 2nd annual service 4 days earlier so i am assuming all was well with the car then.

Re: "motor control system failure"

Usually the connections to the first lambda sensors.
A quick search will find many many cases...

Re: "motor control system failure"

I've had this 4 times now on my 156 over the last 2 years- same spec and year as yours - and each time the dealer has cleared and blamed it on faulty Lambda sensor and /or wiring; luckily all covered by warranty, as should yours be.

The other good news is that it's not really a fault with the management system - if it were your car would drop into "limp home" mode and be running like a dog!

Just drop it back in to the dealer and they should be able to run their dignostics and sort it out fairly quickly...

Re: "motor control system failure"

Had this myself on our 2003 JTS, it was a faulty Lambda sensor, which was fixed under warranty. I called the AA under Alfa assistance and they read the code so I knew if it was a proper fault which would affect the engine. Despite there being a lambda fault I didn't feel any difference in performance.

I was also impressed that Alfa fixed it without any complaint under the 3rd year warranty despite the last service being done by an indepedent garage.

Re: "motor control system failure"

Me too. Lambda sensor wiring. No difference in performance so drove as normal and just got them to sort it at the next service.
