156 Selespeed problem(s)

I've just bought a 2001 156 selespeed and I'm having some issues with it,
*it drops into neutral intermittently, sometimes when you pull up at light it will drop into neutral other times when I'm backing out my drive it will just keep dropping into neutral other times it's fine???
*a couple of times when I've accelerated away fast I get to about 3rd gear and it just drops into neutral
*Ive also noticed the Selespeed pump seems to keep cycling in and out regularly to the point the lights dim for a second then gets brighter for a few seconds then dim again and i can hear the solenoid for the pump keep clicking.

Any help or sugestions would be greatly apreciated

Sounds like a pressure issue, possibly the accumulator? You really need it on Multiecuscan or alfadiag to investigate though

unfortunately I don't have access to multiecuscan or alfadiag, I took it to an Alfa specialist here when I first bought the car before I licensed it and they put it on there computer system (Examiner Smart) and they never said there was a problem, but they did give me a printout from there system,

Engagement Position 21.77 mm
Selection Position 17.57 mm
Clutch pressure plate travel 30.95 mm
Clutch pressure plate reference 0
Speed requested Neutral
Hydraulic Circuit pressure 51.63 bar
Gear engaged Neutral
Gearbox/clutch self-calibration Correct

Errors Detected by control unit

CAN messages reception CAN line in O.C. Intermittent
CAN messages transmission No transmission Intermittent
Lever switch 3 Signal not feasible Intermittent
Pump relay S.C to Ground Intermittent
Lever switch 2 Signal not feasible Intermittent

Unfortunately the mechanic is an old Italian guy who assured me (I think anyway, a little bit hard to understand) that nothing to worry about
I was hopping for the accumulator as that is the cheaper option but the only one that I believe will be able to diagnose it properly is the dealership and they are very tight lipped on info they give out and only want to sell the accumulator and actuator together for nearly $3000
