We've owned our current 147, a 2004 JTD Lusso 8v for about 7 years, having bought it second-hand with only 3k on the clock. It's in good nick (only 40k on it now
), and has given almost no problems of any sort until now. There is a knocking/creaking sound from just behind the bulkhead (or so it sounds) when you are driving, which gets worse on uneven surfaces, and there is an almighty creak/bang from the front if you hit a pothole, which sounds a bit like a broken spring. There is also a low-frequency, regular knocking through the steering when negotiating left-hand bends, which is very pronounced on the motorway.
This knocking on left-handers has been there since before its last MOT, when I asked our garage to look at the suspension. They disassembled a lot of the front suspension anyway, to replace the high-pressure lines for the steering, which had rotted through. They reassembled it (I visited the garage while they were doing it, I actually felt sorry for them, they had six guys all working on it to shift the seized bolts on the suspension) and said it all looked ok. The knocking has got gradually worse since then, and the other noises have developed.
It's due another MOT in a month, we're not planning any long journeys, any thoughts as to the likely cause of this and what you would recommend if another suspension overhaul is required?
