Mooney Do I have a hole in my fuel tank

Hi All,
I have a 1.6TS 156 and until recently I could get 360Miles on a tank. I was having some trouble with coughing and poor idling and changed the plugs and the AFM. Now I'm lucky if my car will do 270miles on one tank. I'm driving the same way and through the same traffic as before. Any ideas please before I'm bankrupt Thanks all.

All fuel tanks come with two holes in them

The new MAF will "learn" the way you drive, airflow, etc .... how long has it been like this? It will probably be telling the ECU to richen the mix. It could be an airleak in the intake, dirty airfilter, wrong plugs or even a duff MAF .. it has been known, especially if from fleabay.

Have you reset her after fitting the new MAF?

Maybe the new MAF is fecked

Or maybe you have a hole in the fuel tank

Re: Do I have a hole in my fuel tank

If it offers a comparison, I filled my 2.0 up with 53 litres yesterday, that left 10 litres in the tank before the fill, on that 53 litres I managed to go 400 miles. This was part stop-start slow stuff in town and part on motorways/A roads giving it some beans with 4 in the car.

Works out at about 34mpg.

However when I have had nobody in the car with me, and I'm in a hurry it can drop to 270 miles to a tank (about 50 litres) which is about 24mpg

Depends how you drive, and if always from cold, the 2.0TS uses huge amounts of fuel to warm up from cold. Probably double the usual amount needed to run the car. It takes about 7-10 miles to warm the engine up to full efficiency. If your journeys are about that or less then 270 is about your lot!
