156 suspension clonks
yesterdays resecuring the engine under tray and wheelarch liners and removing all the gravel lying in it proved not to remedy the clonks i get from the front suspension when going over bumpy roads in town.
however setting out to fit the new drop links I was optomistic, as i was sure this would be the answer, after all one had play in it - wrong!
got to be coming from the stabiliser/ antirollbar, as with it disconnected and cable tied up, the noise is gone. unfortunaterly this means it has to be the stabiliser bar bushes - anyone agree/ disagree?
they look like a pig of a job involving possibly dropping the subframe - is this the case? by levering with a prybat, I can get a tiny amount of movement in the passenger side bush, but not much, but i do notice the bar slides left and right pretty easily up to where the welded on 'washers' stop it, producing a similair noise to the one I am getting.
Anyone had this, or got any thoughts, i have checked everything else thoroughly for play, and the car (2001 1.8 tspark) only has a genuine 38k on it, so i am suprised these would need changing so soon. only ha the car a week, and this minor niggle is spoiling an otherwise great car.
any thought welcome
