Badly kerbed alloy - what can be done ?

Whilst in the lakes over the weekend my 17" 156 wheel was kerbed on their brutal rock road edgings !! ....quite badly.

It's effectively taken a chunk out of the wheel about an inch long along the circumference rim.

Is there anything I can do ? - are they repairable ?

Yes, they can be repaired unless it is badly cracked or buckled. You can usually find a repairer in Yellow Pages or

If it is only the edge of the rim, I remember seeing a DIY repair kit in Halfords if you fancy trying yourself.

Try Chips Away or any of the other SMART repairers.

If it's chunked though, the balance may be affected afterwards.

Certain alloy wheel refurbers can weld additional alloy on and check for true. May be worth spending a few quid to ensure it's not just a cover up job that will ley go when you're a ton up

depending on how hard you hit it (and it sounds like it was pretty hard) you might want to get the bits your wheel is attached to checked out too. I once kerbed a car hard enough to knock the electrics off (scary... no brake servo's, no power steering, no lights, no wipers and going down a hill at 50 mph). It did alsorts of damage to other things too, as well as the alloy I ended up with bent front wishbone, shagged wheel bearing, etc.
