I think I have a good deal :)
Recap: Despite new aux tensioner at a main dealer and new cambelt kit, terrible whining noise and dodgy electrics.
Got relayed to my specialist. The aftermarket non-Alfa warranty will cover the variator (as most expensive problem and wattanty can only deal with the cause of the breakdown). Also going to chuck in a new aux belt as this is cracked, the main dealer should have changed with the tensioner change and did not. This is not good!
Basically, I just have to pay the £25 excess for all of the above.
Sting in the tail though - The cambelt tensioner changed 8 months ago is still working, but just really noisy. As noisy and functionig I have been asked to pay for a new tensioner if I want the noise to go, labour is no extra charge. Any ideas on the cost of this? Apparantly, Blacks and Alfa tensioners are made by the same firm, but the Blacks ones are made from plastic not metal, and these whine. So I have been told, anyway!
Does this sound like a good deal for no more noises and a working variator?
Should I notice a better performance with the new variator as well as losing a rattle?
I will get a report / receipt for the alternator belt and take this to the main dealer who should have changed the bugger!
