Would u buy this

156 2.0TS Selespeed 2000 V Reg
Done just over 60k with FSH inc Cambelts!!
Had 2 owners from new 1st owner bought it abroad and had it imported it has all the original customs paperwork etc with it.
Usual extra inc black leather - Dark blue car
From a resonable garage just under £4k with years MOT/3 mth warranty.
Its seems a genuine example what should i look for especially with the selespeed box?
Any help appreciated this is my 1st Alfa and as i ahve been after one for for a while i want to get a good one!!

Re: Would u buy this

Sounds a reasonable deal. Prob try to knock them down a tad (dealer prob got it as a part-ex). Try to pay about £3.5 unless your trading something in, then you prob struggle to get anything knocked off.
Havent had experience with the selespeed, but just try searching this site, theres usually plenty of advice kicking about.

Re: Would u buy this

I'd be interested ... if I didn't already have one ...

I'd try and knock the down a bit and buy a longer warranty with the money you save. But read the small print carefully.

Re: Would u buy this

small things but none the less. Check for cracked fog lights, corroded wing mirrors(foot), damp or wet carpets in footwells. missing engine undertray, worn suspension bushes, dash creaks, washer motor, front door hinges. unless already changed, the lambda sensor is very soon due for a change. Air mass meters often fail after only 20-30k.

Check the temp gauge. It should settle above 80 below 90 after 5-10 min of driving. If it does not go above 75 then the termostat might be stuck in open position.(common problem on TS engines)

Re: the selespeed box, go for a drive and put car through its paces as much as possible, changing up through gears at different throttles and changing down when slowing sharply. Look for any undue snatchiness. The throttle should blip when changing down to match engine revs. Try to do some slow RAB approaches and feather the throttle in 1st. Clutch take up should be....good! Check 'City' mode works OK and also make sure the gearstick AND the pushbuttons work. Check reverse engages cleanly. There should never, ever be any graunching, even if you try to do something stupid, it shouldn't allow you to do it! Oh, and try at least once to redline, the car should upchange automatically at 6.5K revs.

Re: Would u buy this

re: selespeed.....check to see if the dash lights dim when you change gear, i was informed recently by a specialist that its a sign of possible fault emerging and if mine got any worse to get it checked out. I have since cleaned up the earth contacts to the body and gearbox and its not so bad.
