147 Front Suspension Drop Link Problem
I've had a knock and a squeaking noise coming from the near side front, which was being caused by a damaged lower knuckle-joint on the anti-roll bar Drop Link.
When replacing the Drop Link I've noticed that when the car is jacked up (both front wheels), the Drop Link on the near side is much closer (if not touching slightly) to the vertical Shock Strut than the off side. Looking at the connection between the Strut and Lower Wishbone, it seems like the Strut is twisted slightly pushing it close to the Drop Link. I can jam a screwdriver in and straighten it up, but when I let go it just springs back. I cannot see any wear on the Lower Wishbone and was wondering if this could be due to the Strut not being properly aligned with the Shock when assembled from day one. This may have been like this from factory - who knows!!
Back on the road, the noise has now gone away, however I'm worried that over time the new Drop Link is just going to go the same way as the old one.
I've attached some piccys, which might help explain what I'm going on about!
Has anyone experienced anything similar? If so I'd be grateful for any help or advice
