156 Sportswagon rear wiper

Afternoon all,
Anybody else had trouble with the rear wiper not working? Mine only worked sporadically or when going over a bump in the road so was obviously a loose connection, have spent all day making sure the connections onto the motor are tight on but still no joy. The only way I can get it to work is if I press on the circuit board on the motor, have had a look but can`t see any obvious faults in the solder etc. My local friendly bloodsuckers, sorry I meant Alfa dealer, wants £120 for a new one. Is there anything I can do? Has anyone got a used one for sale? Is it yet another nail in the coffin of my Alfa love affair?

On days like these...dum dum dee dum dum

Mines just packed up as well (54/04 plate SW).
The Alfa specialist garage i take it to spotted the early signs (stopping just short of parking occasionally) and a week later it died.
Apparently its really common and they've had to replace quite a few in the last couple of years.
I'm going to take mine to bits first in case it's just seized, maybe some WD40 and cleaning and re-greasing will sort. If the gears are ground or worn - well then that's all she wrote.
Good luck.
Cheers, Mark.

You could try one of the brakers to see if they have a replacement

Mine went the same last year, working sporadicly or really slowly. As long as the motor hasnt burnt out you can fix them easy for nothing! Remove the motor being careful not to break any trim clips, open the motor up,place in vice and gently drift the long shaft and cog out of the body it will be tight as oxidation/corrosion on the shaft will be causing the sticking. sand the shaft down with some wet n dry, grease liberally and replace the O ring if u neccessary! re-assemble in reverse order,re-mount motor then replace trim and robert's your fathers brother!

i had this problem after it snowed, what i did is remove the rear cover unclip the plug from the motor, then i applied a 12v supply to the motor, and lifted the actual wiper blade off the windscreen so there was no loading on the motor, conected to metal probes to the 12v battery charger leads, then just touched the pos to the left of the plug, then the earth to the right hand pin of the plug, and it worked after the clutch clicked back in, refitted everything all fine, they have got a clutch in the gearbox, for over loading, that's why most of the time the fuse does not blow, clever little italians hope this helps

Hi Guys...

My SW has the same issue... mine has totally stopped working, took it out and apart, to find there is 1 plastic gear between the metal ones and this has sheered... the shaft has jammed too, spoke to alfa and they want over £85 +vat for a exchange....

i'm sorry but is this just me... but Alfa are taking the ****... it is obvious they have a problem with the design of this part, and expect us to pay though the nose to rectify there mistake...

mines sat on the shed floor, and that where it is staying....

anyone know if you can get a new window molding without the hold for the wiper...???
