Main dealer trouble.....
A month ago you may recall the AA took my 147 into a Scottish Alfa dealer - AA wrote on the report: Whine from tensioner area, dealer investigation required'.
When I collected the car, there was still a whine, but not as bad. Under protest the dealership eventually agreed to type up that there was still a whine present with multiple guesses to the cause!
My car has been parked up for the last couple of days - I fire it up, and get the sound of a very loud whine and the sound of a belt slipping at a guess (high pitched sharp noise as well as the whine).
I phoned the dealership - as I am in Cheshire it is too far to travel to Scotland in a car with a whining belt! Cambelt appears not to be the problem, I am sure it is the alternator belt area. (Work carried out was replacing the aux tensioner and idler).
What would be a reasonable way forward? The garage are more or less saying that it is up to me to prove they did something wrong. I am saying that they did not do what I asked them to do, as the cold start-up whine that the AA have documented is still occuring!
By the way, they told me at point of collection that they re-used the same alternator belt as it looked alright. I thought it was Alfa policy to replace any belt that comes off, or is that just a rumour?
