156 1.9TD Engine Management

Hi Guys,

I bought a 156 1.9TD last week. has a 110000 on the clock but runs really well. However on the way to work this morning the digital computer sounded and said Warning 'Motor Control System Failure' go to dealer. The car still runs fine and has re-started but shows the same fault. Is this just a computer note that can be re-set or do I really need to consult an Alfa garage?

Thanks Joff.

If the car hasn't gone into limp mode I doubt its anything serious. You're best to either download a copy of Multiecuscan (free from Multiecuscan.net) and buy a cable (contact Rarebear on these forums or search eBay for 'alfa Romeo diagnostic cables) or find a member of this site who has a copy and is willing to scan it for you.

It's a good idea to get the software/cables anyway, it saves you a fortune on garage diagnostics over time...
