The dealer was right to a degree, the switch is fitted into the steering wheel, but, from the wheel centre to the switch are two wires (white,black) which can be cut to remove the old switch then solder the tails from the new switch on. Should take about 10 mins.
Does the switch 'click' when you push it?
The reason i ask is the steering wheel i will be taking the switch from, the '-' button doesnt and its quite noticeable.
The switch is mounted on a circuit board in the 'button'. they are very common and available from places like 'maplins' or 'RS components' here in the UK, but its a bit more fiddly to solder.
