Ticking bomb?

Just come back from the local Blockbusters and pulled up on the drive and killed the radio and heater and noticed a very prominent ticking noise from the engine bay! (wasn't there this morning).

I'm not known for my mecanical knowledge but after reading all the horror stories of cambelts etc failing early i'm starting to get paranoid!

It's too dark to see anything with the bonnet up but the noise is definately coming from the drivers side of the engine bay?

If a cambelt is about to fail are their any indicators? or is it jus t a matter of BANG?

My local Alfa specialist tells me the V6 should do 60K with no trouble?

Mines just clocked up the 50K and was down to to be done in about 8 weeks time.

Problem is i've got a long journey to do on Friday and don't want to do any damage to my lovely motor.

Any ideas what could be causing the ticking?

Re: Ticking bomb?

Ticking could be one of the tensioners giving up, my V6 started to make funny noises and they got worse VERY quickly....one of the idlers had died.

Could be a few things so I would get it checked out now!

Re: Ticking bomb?

My Ticking was the cam belt where a flap of it was hanging off and hitting the guard.

Yes, get it checked and to be very sure, do the change early!
