Work on 2000 147 for MOT

As said before this is our first Alfa A 147 Y plate with 90,000 on the clock.Mot time this week and was shocked to be told that it is a typical Alfa and was rotten as a pear rust wise. Both sills were holed and rusty from half way towards the rear. The floor seems to be rotten too with what looks like blisters in a row across the car-almost look like there should be grommets in there to act as drain holes. It was off the road for six months.Do you think that it might have been full of water in the back and this has added to the problems on the sills.Otherwise just needed a tyre and O/SF anti roll bar linkage.Have only had a chance to look at the floor from underneath so far so not sure what state it`s in!!Was just more than a bit worried when told it was a standard thing with Alfas. What do you guys reckon??
Oh, and I thought the rattly engine was a cam lobe but apparently it`s the variator that needs sorting-big job or not?

Not standard at all on newer alfas.
Has it spent a lot of time near the sea side?

I believe that the 147 has a galvanised body (apart from the floor for some unknown reason!) so rust is not uncommon I'm afraid.

Yep, sadly rusty floors are very common on the 156 and it follows the 147/GT will be the same as they were built in the same factory with the same lack of care...
