156 Key

Hi Guys

Need a bit of help

When i purchased my used 156 jtd it came with 2 black remote keys(door and boot).Re decorating my house i`ve managed to lose one,to make things worse the button for the doors on the key now stays depressed leaving me no option but to place key in lock.

I`m in the dodgy position of possibly losing/breaking this key which leaves no entry to the car,

Whats the cheapest and easiest way forward??

Re: 156 Key

You could replace the microswitch in the button - the reason that the button stays down is that the microswitch has fallen off or is broken.

Go to alfa156.net and look for the tips section - here you'll find my guide for repairing the microswitch.

As for a new key - well you could try ebay but you'll need to get the ECU reprogrammed to accept the new key. Unfortunately there's no real cheap way to get a new key.

Re: 156 Key

I only had 1 key when I bought my 156 so down to the steeler I went. Cost was about 100 + vat for a new key (new style that doesn't break), new code (that was missing too) and reprogramming of the car and the old key.

The old key is now my spare as its the old style and the new one has performed perfectly for the past 2 years.

Maybe a bit expensive but I thought it was worth it.

Re: 156 Key

Thanks Guys

100 seems a lot but the alternative of not getting in the car, recovery etc is a fair bit more to the stealers I go-Lovely

Re: 156 Key

I did exactly what CosmosBlu did. I bought a car with only one key and thought it was worth stumping up, for the peace of mind. Cost 110 inc VAT for the code and key.
