Main dealer advised need new wishbones, upper and lower at that, and also that the anti roll bar was fine, but needed the drop links. !!!!!! - independant garage who takes a lot of pride in his work assessed the wishbones as fine, and the antiroll bar as knackered!
Apparantly Alfa dealers are too quick to say that the wishbones are shot when in fact they are just a little egg shaped and have many years of useful life remaining.
It is rather alarming that the dealer advised the antiroll bar was fine, when this is the cause of the clunking noises.
Thankfully the independant garage has moved the antiroll bar around a little - seemed to put it back in line meaning no more creaking noises
Will need doing, but not the emergency I thought it was, will probably just wait until the service in June - got quoted only £200 all in, dealer wanted the £500 mark!
Also, the main dealer who advised I needed new sandwich plate seals is very wrong - I cleaned the gearbox up a few weeks ago and have covered serious miles since. Result? Not a drop of oil there at all. That would have been another wasted £500 if I listened to the dealer.
Moral? Never trust a dealer until you get a good specialist to investigate.
