Help 147 Knocking noises...

Hi guys,

I have a knocking noise over bumps in the road - and I think it's from the front end right hand side (off side) - but hard to tell. The main thing that's telling me it's probably the steering is if I yank the wheel hard to the right, I get a dull clunk at standstill. The same clunk as when I go over bumps. Anyone know of any weak points in that area? I've been under the car and can't feel any obvious worn track rod ends or anything.

And before anyone mentions rear hub bushes, I've had them done already!

Cheers for any ideas!

Re: 147 Knocking noises...

Not too likely but I had an almost untraceable knocking noise similar to yours it sounded like it was coming from the front or from the very back depending on what caused the rattle (speed bump etc) Also reversing caused a different noise.

It turned out to be a loose bolt in the rear suspension !!!!

Heres is the bolt in question, It had about 1cm of exposed thread on the bolt so it had worked loose over time

Thanks Riot - I'll definitely have a look, although the service guy didn't spot anything. But hey, what's new?!

Anti-roll bar drop links. When the small ball joints on the end become worn they knock over every bump but luckily they are pretty cheap to replace.
