Drivers window switch147

One of the drivers door window switches on my 2003 5 door 147 had failed so I tried to remove the switch panel from the arm rest. I expected to be able to prise it out from above but all that happened was the top plate came off resulting in disintegration and shedding of numerous tiny bits into the door cavity. That did at least reveal the fault to be a hole in the rubber spring pad, but got me no closer to removing the switch unit. The switch unit just will not come up through the arm rest hole. Does anyone know if the unit should be removable upwards through the armrest hole or does it have to accessed from underneath and behind the door card?

There's a screw holding it in, follow the line from the switch downwards, in the door card is a small Phillips head screw, it's easy to miss unless you're looking for it
