Expensive engine noise

My wife's 2002 147 2.0 TS
Go a phone call from her as she was on the way to work "It made a funny noise and the engine has cut out and won't start!"
Went to the rescue and took her to work, then returned with #2 son to investigate.
At first the engine wouldn't start - sounded like a dead battery, so we applied jump leads and it started - then stopped, no tickover.
2nd attempt and gave it some throttle and it ran and ticked over, but a nasty noise from the engine.
It was only a mile or so from home, so decided to risk driving it. got about a mile and it died again - and again the dead battery symptoms, so called for recovery and dropped it at our local village garage. They called back next day - no obvious belt or pulley problems, so it sounds like an expensive engine failure.
It still starts on the button, but sounds orrible - here is a video link:

Sounds like its spun a big end bearing, crank is probably scored to hell.. That noise is the piston whacking the head or the conrod slapping about on the crank, one or the other. New engine time there
