Useless used car guides
Just got hold of a copy of Parkers to browse through, as I suspect my other half's long suffering 205 is going to fail its MOT badly.....
Out of interest, had a quick look at the reliability section to see whether I trusted the comments therein. I quote "Plenty of owners report having no problems at all. However, the selespeed gearbox does seem to be a particular weak point. Flaking paint on bumpers. Worn or damaged brake discs. Niggling minor faults include oil leaks and electrical problems."
This seems largely at odds with the things I hear reported in this forum, such as cambelt / tensioner failures occuring way before recommended change interval leading to expensive repair, and suspension bushes wearing within 30K miles. Clutches requiring frequent replacement on 2.4JTD models. Am I the only one who thinks therefore that the guide isn't worth the paper its written on?
