Re: 156 Buying Advice
Make sure it's had it's 60,000 service - that's a medium expensive one. Prepare for the 72,000 service - it should be around £800 - £1000 - that's right!
I think £6500 is steep as well - found this on autotrader for 2001 :
40,200 miles, Metalic Silver. PAS, ABS, RCL, AC, drivers, passengers and side airbags, Momo Black leather interior, arm rest, Upgraded alloys. Beautiful car throughout. MOT 03/06, TAX 04/06. Company car £5900
Having owned a V6 they are thirsty and cost a fair bit to maintain (a warranty will be about 300-700 per annum depending on how good it is). At that age it's going to have niggles most likely suspension wearing out. They are a great car and the engine is glorious however. Make sure you get it checked over by someone who knows about them and insist on a FSH - otherwise you could be looking at some very hefty bills indeed.
Check for a flat spot at 5000 revs - MAF sensor £240, little bloke holding a balloon on the dash - airbag ECU failure - could be connection or ECU (ECU £250), suspension is £250 a corner generally to fix. Check for smoke of any colour on startup and heavy acceleration / run off. With any just walk away, it;s not worth the hassle.
Hope this helps
