ArrrrHHHHH!! just as I get my problems sorted, another occurs!
Yesterday, driving home I floored the car in 4th from 1500rpm and the revs 'lifted' when I got to 2000rpm and shot upto 2,750 (I could hear the sudden change as well as seeing it happen on the rev counter) as though there was either wheel spin or clutch slip. I tried it again, flooring it, this time in 5th at the same revs. The same thing happened. Greasy road? No. The traction control light would have come on and besides the JTD 16V is powerful but not that powerful to wheel spin at 60mph in 4th/5th/6th! Just to make sure when I got on a totally dry road, I tried it in 6th. Same thing happened. However it does not happen like this EVERY time.
On average its 1 in 4 chance. Me thinks the clutch plate has got hot it a particular place once in its life and its slipping on that point.
The car has done 34k and I'd expect the clutch to last longer than that!
What I cannot understand is in 1st, 2nd, 3rd its fine. The clutch has loads of bite not only in these gears, but also if you have the handbrake on and slowly lift off the clutch in 1st, until it bites, it holds exceptionally well with no slip.
So whats wrong
It must be the clutch mustn't it?
