Running with Lambda dissconected?

I suspect a dicky lambda sensor on my 1.8ts. I am getting poor mileage, hunting at idle and a kind of jerking or kangarooing if I am at about 80 KPH or more, back off the gass peddle and then press the pedal again. I also get a surge of power from 3000RPM and maybe a bit sluggish at lower revs.

I have been through every other possibility I can think of exept the valve for crankcase ventilation and the lambda sensor.

I dissconnect the lambda and found the hunting idle smoothed out to 900RPM. Took it for a short run and found the surging at 3000 was gone and it felt better at lower revs. I need to get on the highway to test the kangarooing though.

Is it ok to run the engine with the lambda disconnected? l I have a new one ordered as well as a cable so I can hook up some diagnostic sofware and see whats going on.

engine won't get damaged, cat maybe in a long term run. mine was with lambda disconnected for about 6 months ~ 6000 km. replugged, done several 10 km trips in 4th at 120 km/h, passed MOT no sweat. so I think everything is ok!
