ECU cover, why is it shaped like this

The ECU cover to the right of the engine bay in the 156 and GT has a distinctive indent. Does anyone know what that might be for? The only things under there are the ECU and air intake, but I can't imagine how this indent might be used.

The only thing I can think of is in the attached picture, it can't be that simple, can it?

That is because that is where the Selespeed cars had their fluid bottle
Im guessing Alfa just modified the mold from the Selespeed cars to the manual cars.

I like your practical application though. Could also be used to place the screw tray.

I reckon it's there so an Italian garage tech can rest an Espresso there.

Must be on newer 156 models or diesels as my '98 TS doesn't have that. The ECU is on the throttle body and not somewhere I'd rest a cup of any liquid! ;-)
