Re: motor control system failure
I have only just got my 156 SeleSpeed, but I had the motor control problem which was caused by a temporary problem with an O2 sensor. It was probably due to the fact the battery wasn't very well charged as it had been sitting for a while. Anyway after a reset it has been fine.
Unfortunately the AA man said that this also comes on if the cambelt has slipped due to teeth stripping or the belt snapping. The bad news is that if the belt snapped it could mean an engine rebuild of £1,500.00 or more.
Although Alfa recommend 72K or 5 year change for the cambelt there has been a huge problem with early failures. I have just had the belts changed at 37K as a precaution.
Hope it's not a belt snapping. How many miles have you done and has it been serviced by Alfa.
