Have a free sunday and with my new alfa now in the country (in Sweden having driven it from the UK!) i'm going to attempt to fix the problem stopping cruise control from working.
There are some pictures and details of this in other threads but I had two specific questions if someone could be so kind as to let me know...
1) (Anyone with working cruise control on a 159!)... At he moment if the car is turned on, the dash lights all come on (the normal test run) including the cruise control light, then all turn off as expected. If I then turn on the cruise control using the stick left of the steering wheel (right hand drive car) switching it from the off 'O' position to the symbol with cruise on, the light doesnt come on. What I would like to know is if this (when *stationary*) is normal behaviour or does anyone with a working 159 cruise system see that light come on when stationary? Knowing this would be a big help as then when fiddling with the clutch switch (which is the suspected culprit at the mo) I would be able to just see if the light comes on when stationary and avoid having to take it onto the motorway each time to test it out which would be a PITA!
2) in http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...t-working.html
there is a pic of the switch that I believe may be the culprit. A few questions here for anyone who has managed to fix this problem...
a) What is the best way to get to this switch. Ive tried sitting vitually upside down with legs in the air but its not the easiest and the switch is fairly tucked away (and you need to declutch too so that looses you one hand!). Im going to take a look at the elearn CD as soon as ive found a link to download (only had the 156 version) but any tips on how to get to this and ultimately take the switch off if I need to?
b) Could anyone explain what the actual proper level of 'pressing' is supposed to be on these. At the moment mine is being pressed in slightly when the clutch it up, when pressing down the clutch it seems to press in the switch even further. I would have thought this was normal but does anyone have a good explanation of this? I heard the switch can get into some kind of safety mode where you need to pull it out and 'reset' it, has anyone done this and can I do it without taking it off?
Thanks ahead, i'll try post pics of this when I'm done.
