147 battery dead?
My son parked his 1.6 on Friday night. Monday a.m. battery is dead. ignition lights but no turn over. Monday evening I am home and jump lead from another car and still no go. Turns but very very sluggish. So clean battery and body earth connections and car starts.
Car now also starts with existing battery. Whoo hoo no new battery needed.
Tuesday a.m. battery dead and voltmeter across terminals shows 9.4V. OK I didn't check vltage the previous evening but it was starting fine - bugger.
Battery on charge all day. Battery disconnected from charger at about 19:00 and at 23:00 (still not connected to car) battery has settled to 13.04V across terminals, so looks like battery may be good. Current drain measured (meter in series with battery and car) and drain is 0.56A. Is that excessive or considered correct.
Went to recheck battery voltage and left setting for meter on Amps so have blown the special fuses in the meter - bugger that means I can't read the battery voltage (left disconnected) in the morning and I don't have a hydrometer.
Do I dare just refit the battery and hope that if it starts in the morning it will also start in the afternoon when he is ready to come home from work? Personally I think his sister should give him a lift tomorrow until I have new fuses for the meter and have a better idea what this battery or car drain is doing.
Is 0.56A drain with everything off excessive? If it is what are the common causes please and tests for them.
