How do I check the ground connections and voltages? I've checked the connections at the battery (the car's always started easily) but is there a reference for the pinout of the ABS connector?
Was replacing the pump/ECU difficult?
I'm in Sydney - anyone know where a spare unit may be had? Also, with the guys that recondition them - are any in Australia?
Think I did once find a pin out for the 5.7 Unit, but not for 8.0. Did google search, seems "no communication" with ABS ECU is common fault with your unit(if that is of any help), amongst others, see this link http://www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/re...repair-service
You should be able to find 12v and ground at the pump with a multimeter, without a pinout. I'd remove the block connector from the ABS ECU(with battery disconnected, obviously), Then reconnect battery and, using a multimeter, carefully look for 12v and ground inside the connector(you may need ignition on). If you can find both, it's not definitive, but it would be a good sign.
It might be worth checking the fuse first. If you can't find which is ABS fuse, just check them all(with battery disconnected). I'd check visually and with multimeter. Take care where you remove them from though, as some locations are empty and it's easy to put a fuse back in the wrong place.
Changing pump was easy. You'll need a vacuum brake bleeding tool though, to ensure you get the air out of the pump.
I got pump on Ebay for £40. Repair can cost around £150, but they can test the unit first to be sure it is at fault. I was quoted £1500 for new unit!
