156 ECU Swap

I'm replacing the ECU on my 156 very shortly.
Its a full kit, with the ignition barrel, 2 keys, the immobiliser box and the ECU itself.

Question is, do I really need to swap the ignition barrel, can I not just replace the ECU and immobiliser box and change the key blade on the keys?

Also the remote central locking.... will the keys from the ecu kit control the doors etc after the swap, or the original key?

Its for a 2004/5 156 2.4 JTDm

If you can replace the blade from your original key into the new one, that should be OK...the important bit is the code chip in the key - don't lose it from the new one! You could probably just swap the chip from the new key into the old one, though....

Don't think the new key will link to the door locking and alarm, so you might want to try swapping the chip over into the old key.

No, you do not need to change the barrels, what you need to do is make sure that you use the chip in the new key fob in your old key.The ECU is matched to the imobiliser box and the immobiliser is matched to he chip in the key, so long as you have them a matched,it will work.
