Leather Seats retro fit

Hi folks, Ive been offered a set of leather for my 1998 156 sp2, they come from a later model with the side air bags in the seat, now the question is will i have problems mating these to my car? I will have to use my seatbelts and pre tensioners as the belts on the leather seats have been cut is it possible that they may be alot of trouble getting the airbags to work? will my airbags interface with the new seats will i need new ECU's?

your help would be much appreciated

Re: Leather Seats retro fit

Your airbag ECU will not have an output for side airbags.
and it is not simply a matter of fitting the later airbag ECU either (about 300 for the ECU if you wanted to try!)

Your best bet would be to leave the side airbags non-functional, unless you really want to spend loads of to get them to work.

As for fitting the seats, that should be no problem.

Re: Leather Seats retro fit

Need to be very careful about retrofitting leather seats.

In six years of 156 driving on cloth seats and covering 70000 miles, I never had an accident. First decent trip out after retrofitting leather interior and my car fell off Snake Pass backwards at 50mph!

They always told me that leather seats were more slippery than cloth, but I didn't understand what they meant!

Splendid! I presume you lived to tell the tale...?

Yep.. bung the seats in. They should fit. The side airbags won't work like that but you're changing to get leather, rather than the side-airbags, yes?
