1 week work, £900 all wasted - new V6 needed
I bought a 156 V6 2.5 with a blown head gasket, so I decided to take a week off work and set about fixing it, while I was there I thought that I would replace all the belts, tensioners etc, have the heads reconned and give it a good service. I borrowed the timing tools from a dealer (damn right after i bought £800 worth of parts from him). After turning the engine by hand it felt smooth, so I gave it a go on the key - it turned and that was it. I took most of the top end apart again, but couldn't see anything wrong. By now it was the end of the week so I took it to a dealer to look at, redo the timing if needed and basically get it going, I felt confidant that there was nothing major wrong with it, it had compression, spark and fuel. He rang me today to inform me that the valves were bent!! He showed me (some of the cam followers were way below where they should be - which I am sure that they weren't when I took it in). They said and I quote "we did the timing and the engine locked" - Gurrr - f*#king peasents. The damage is obviouse so why would they even bother to do the timing if they knew the valves were bent? By the way they want £3500 to fix it. Either way I have no proof of it being basically sound before I took it in, so I an in the market for a new engine. What would be a good price to pay for one? Either second hand or reconned? More to the point can any recommend a good place to get one?
PS I have all the torque settings and tightning orders for the 1.8, 2l and 2.5 V6 engines if anyone needs them.
