I bought one of the eBay kits 2 1/2 years ago, uppers lowers and droplinks. Now 40,000 miles later the lowers are still on and still fine.
I replaced the uppers with Birth and the drop links with Meyle a couple of months ago. Have to say the eBay parts were still in pretty good shape. The uppers were creaking but may have got away with just regreasing, the balljoints weren't too bad.
If you can do the work yourself I don't see the problem with fitting eBay parts. OK you may have to change them a little sooner but so what? However, as you're paying a garage to do the work then it might make more economic sense to go with a named brand.
What brand are they offering to fit for £170?
All the best
Loose - not close, compact, or tight in structure or arrangement
Lose - to part with or come to be without, as through theft, accident, negligence, etc.
