I have to say that the M-jet 20v is an awsome engine and suits the car very well!
Knocks the socks off most cars on the road (esp with re-map
) Fuel consumption is brilliant too. Considering I average 85-90mph on the motorway and I fair hammer it over the twisty stuff, I still manage 42-45mpg.
Performance wise, the re-map has made a HUGE difference. A few AO members have sampled the delights of my 156 remap now and I think they'll agree that it really is one rocket ship.
I love my passenger's faces when they ask what size engine I have under the bonnet and I tell them it's a diesel that's pinned them into the seat for the last half hour!!
Downsides? As Chris says, diesel tractor on startup, but very smooth when warm. I get some black smoke on full boost, but thats down to the remap and not the standard setup.
Its a heavy engine, so it will understeer a little earlier than the petrol version. But I'm running the sports suspension anyway - so maybe a little firm for some.
Plus sides? Performance, economy and a very refined drive. 2300rpm at 90mph is nice and calm. Also the fact that the 20v can tug you all the way to 140++mph is nice to know.....(apparently officer
