Help? Ive lost my keys for my 156 V6. I spoke to one dealer today and he said that if I had my chassis number they could get a new key cut from alfa's data base then if I trailered the car to them they could recode everything? Cost circa £400.
Another mate told me I'd need a new ecu and keys to match circa £1,000!
Here is the real story, in Ireland anyways.... assuming its a RED coloured key
With you car you should have at least 2 keys, one is a R/c fob for the doors & a key to start the car the other is just a key to start the car.... no r/c function.
You should also have a credit card shaped piece of cardboard with the following info on it:
Electronic code [ usually 5 digits]
Mechanical Code [ usually 7 digits ]
Its true that from the VIN numbers, giving AR the last 8 digits can also obtain these codes.
When you have all 3 codes mentioned above you can order a new key from your friendly AR dealer.
Then wheh you pay €90 you buy a non-r/c type red key & have it coded by an AR dealer or for €130 you can have the r/c key type, again coding included....simple.
People taking 100's or 1,000 for new key etc...are b/s'ing you
