Bose in new GT
New member - new GT!! (selespeed, stromboli, black leather, bose, xenons, 17" spokes)
Loving my new car and loving the Bose. Noticed that the speed sensitive volume control option is disabled in the radio when bose is fitted. Apparently becuase Bose has its own built in AudioPilot. This doesn't actually work. Dealer didn't know why so I thought I'd ask Bose.....
"The AudioPilot technology in the Alfa GT with Bose system was available in cars produced from July 2003 until November 2004. In 2004 Alfa Romeo decided to remove the AudioPilot function for cost reduction reasons. All Alfa GT produced after November 2004 therefore will not have the AudioPilot technology.
If you have a Alfa GT with Audiopilot the microphone should be mounted between the front seats monitors interior noise level. Please see attached Bose system illustration. To test the functionality you can turn on the radio at a comfortable volume and then plop with your fingers against the microphone-grill between the front seats monitors interior noise level for approx. 15-20 sec. If the AudioPilot technology works fine after a while the volume should increase smoothly. When you stop plopping against the microphone the volume should fall down quick.
If that does not work, your Alfa Romeo dealer should first check the microphone. If that works fine next step should be to test the Bose system-electronics (amplifier). Also the dealer should examine, if the speed (dependant) volume control (SVC) of the radio/headunit is deactivated, because the AudioPilot technologies may not work together with SVC."
You'd have thought Alfa could have enabled SVC again once they decided to cut back on the Bose costs. oh well, it's not exactly a problem, given that the car the absolute business!
