Just before I was about to put my deposit down to secure the 147 I've been looking at, a mechanic ran in and told the bloke I was talking to on the phone that it had a problem selecting third gear, intermittent however.
I've not had a chance to drive the car yet, but as I leave for the UK tonight, I was hopefully going to be picking it up within the next few days.
Here's the link to the car, it looks clean and looked-after ALFA ROMEO 147 1.6 TS Lusso For Sale in Liverpool - Wavertree Car Centre
I've called up my local Alfa specialist (Alfatech Huddersfield) who said there shouldn't be too much of an issue, it'd be cheap and easy to fix as it is likely not to require a gearbox strip/rebuild and is more likely to be a linkage/mount as the problem is only with 3rd and is intermittent, but as he hasn't seen the car, he obviously can't be certain.
Has anyone had a similar problem with a stiff/difficult selection of 3rd gear?
This looks a really nice car that I'm reluctant to pass up on if it would be a cheap and simple fix and I'm sure, with the fault, I could get that asking price down.
It'd be great to get some other opinions, is it going to be a lot of trouble or a simple fix?
